Diwali Muhurat Trading 2026: Official Samvat 2083 Session Timings and What Traders Watch

7 November 2026

NSE and BSE will conduct the annual Diwali Muhurat Trading session on Sunday, 8 November 2026, marking the auspicious start of the Hindu accounting year Samvat 2083. The special one-hour session is a long-standing Dalal Street tradition where institutional and retail participants place symbolic trades for the new year.

Indian benchmarks enter Samvat 2083 on the front foot after a seven-session rally that carried the Sensex past 81,000 and the Nifty above 25,000.

What happened

Per exchange circulars for the special Sunday window, the session includes a 15-minute pre-open window followed by a one-hour continuous market session across equities, equity derivatives and commodities. All trades executed during the Muhurat window carry normal T+1 settlement obligations. Historically, the Sensex has finished in the green in roughly four out of every five Muhurat sessions over the past decade, though intraday liquidity is thinner than a standard six-hour day.
