FTSE MIB Slips Back Under 50,100 as Banks Lead Friday Losses but Still Gain on the Week

8 November 2026

Milan's FTSE MIB closed Friday 6 November at about 50,050, down roughly 0.9% on the day. The benchmark had traded between roughly 49,650 and 50,300 during the session. Despite the weak Friday, the index finished the week up about 1.1%, which means the European sell-off that hit on Thursday did not erase the gains made earlier in the week. Figures differ slightly between data providers, so the closing level should be read as approximate.

What happened

Banks were the main drag. Nexi fell more than 3%, while Banco BPM and BPER each dropped by a little under 3%. Those moves matter because banks are a large weight in the FTSE MIB and have been the index's main support in recent weeks. Tenaris and Diasorin were among the strongest names on the day. Paris closed about 0.8% lower and Frankfurt fell around 2%, which shows the European pullback was broader than Milan alone.

Why it matters for traders

What to watch

Next week's signal is whether the banks recover. A bounce in Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit would suggest the Friday dip was profit-taking rather than a change in leadership. Also watch the 50,000 level, which the index has been testing on both sides. A close back below it would make the index look vulnerable again.
