Gold Climbs Past $4,100 for Its Best Week Since August as Post-Election Yields and Dollar Dip
Gold delivered its strongest weekly performance since August during the week ended 6 November 2026, climbing past the $4,000 threshold and reaching highs between $4,100 and $4,134 an ounce. The rally was fuelled by a mid-week drop in US Treasury yields, a softer US Dollar Index (DXY) following the US midterm elections, and safe-haven hedging during Thursday's $2.5 trillion Wall Street tech rout.
Even when Friday's upbeat US jobs report nudged yields off their lows, bullion held comfortably above $4,050/oz.
What happened
After the Democratic sweep of both chambers of the US Congress created expectations of legislative gridlock, the US dollar fell to a one-month low and sovereign bond yields pulled back. Because gold pays no coupon and is priced in dollars, lower real yields and a weaker greenback acted as a double tailwind. When equity volatility spiked on Thursday, portfolio managers added bullion as a hedge against tech drawdowns.
Why it matters for traders
- Reclaiming $4,000 flipped market structure bullish. After briefly dipping to a one-year low in late October, gold's rapid surge back above $4,000–$4,100 trapped momentum shorts.
- Gold shines during equity-bond correlation shifts. When tech stocks drop and political uncertainty rises, bullion often outperforms both equities and crypto.
- Festive physical demand in India adds a seasonal floor. Dhanteras and Diwali buying across India coincided with the macro breakout.
What to watch
- Whether spot gold holds above $4,050–$4,080/oz as the new support shelf next week.
- US CPI inflation data and its effect on real Treasury yields.
