Nasdaq Rebounds 1.1% After Thursday's $2.5 Trillion Tech Rout While the Dow Slips 237 Points

7 November 2026

Wall Street finished a turbulent post-election week with a mixed session on Friday, 6 November. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 264.43 points (+1.1%) to 24,579.42 and the S&P 500 edged up 23.13 points (+0.3%) to 7,376.86, staging a partial bounce after Thursday's historic selloff had erased roughly $2.5 trillion in market value. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lagged, falling 237.33 points (-0.5%) to 51,285.73.

For the full week, the Nasdaq still logged a 3.4% loss, the S&P 500 fell 2.7% and the Dow slipped 0.9%.

What happened

Thursday's 5.5% plunge in the Nasdaq—its worst single day since April 2025—was triggered by a sudden reassessment of US midterm election results, where a Democratic sweep of Congress and local ballot pushback against power-hungry data centers rattled the AI infrastructure trade. On Friday, dip-buyers stepped back into beaten-down semiconductor leaders: Nvidia gained roughly 2.6% and Micron climbed nearly 4%, helping technology stabilise while industrials and financials weighed on the Dow.
