Rupee Holds Near 277 per Dollar Officially, Open Market Quotes Near 280
Where the Rupee Stands
- SBP reference rate (2 November 2026): 1 USD = 276.72 PKR
- Open market (3 November): about 280 PKR, per dealer quotes
Why two rates?
The State Bank's rate reflects the interbank market. Open-market rates for cash include dealers' handling margins, so a small gap is normal. A wide or fast-growing gap would be a warning sign of dollar shortages.
The bigger debate
The rupee has been held largely stable. The IMF has been pushing for a more market-determined exchange rate, while authorities say they expect no immediate devaluation.
Why stock traders care
A weaker rupee raises costs for importers and lifts the rupee value of exporters' earnings. Currency moves often decide which PSX sectors lead.
