Sensex Crosses 81,000 and Nifty Reclaims 25,000 as Dalal Street Logs a Seventh Straight Gain

7 November 2026

The BSE Sensex surged 1,718 points, or 2.17%, to close at the day's high of 81,028 on Friday, 6 November, crossing the 81,000 mark for the first time in weeks. The NSE Nifty 50 climbed 494 points, or 2.01%, to settle at 25,030, reclaiming the psychological 25,000 level and stretching Dalal Street's winning streak to seven straight sessions.

What stood out was the divergence from global markets. While Wall Street and Asian tech hubs reeled from a sharp semiconductor and AI selloff, Indian equities attracted strong rotational inflows into banks, financials and domestic cyclicals ahead of the Diwali weekend.

What happened

Heavyweight private and public sector banks, financial services and automakers did the heavy lifting. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), who had injected nearly ₹14,975 crore in the preceding session, continued to rotate capital into Indian large-caps as lower crude oil averages improved India's macro outlook. Broad indices participated in the morning before smallcaps saw mild profit-taking into the weekend.
