Sensex and Nifty Extend Rally for a Fourth Day as Crude Eases

4 November 2026

The Sensex closed about 1,225 points higher at 76,917.85 on 3 November, while the Nifty 50 added 370.05 points to finish at 23,810.85. Both benchmarks gained roughly 1.6%, and the Sensex's advance marked its fourth straight session of gains. Early trade on 4 November carried the momentum forward, with the Sensex up about 288 points near 77,185 and the Nifty around 23,890.

What happened

The gains were broad, but FMCG, realty and private banks led the move. Two forces drove the rally. International crude prices eased from recent highs, and foreign investors resumed buying Indian equities. Market reports tied the oil decline to lower input costs for companies and to less pressure on the country's current account. Sources differ slightly on the exact size of the Sensex gain, so the figures above should be read as approximate.

Why it matters for traders

What to watch

The key level to watch is whether the Nifty holds above the 23,800 zone at the close. Crude oil direction matters most for the sectors that led gains, because a fresh spike would reverse the cost relief that supported the rally. Q2 results from large banks and consumer companies will show whether the move has earnings behind it or is mostly driven by oil and flows.
